Normandie Est. 1693 - Eisen & Viljoen 2013 - 750ml
Region: Franschhoek Valley, Coastal Region, South Africa Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot
Normandie Est. 1693 is one of the original twenty nine French Huguenot-settled farms in the Franschhoek region of the Cape Winelands. Located on the mid slopes of the majestic Groot Drakenstein Mountain peak, their aim is to honor and progress more than 300-year-old private estate and to produce iconic wines of exceptional quality by hand that match and represent the immense physical beauty and natural gifts of their origins.
Tasting Note: A very classy nose of pencil shavings, prunes and subtle oak nuances at first, which intensify over time with notes of clove and prominent ripe dark fruits. Harmonious marriage of perfectly ripe black fruit with subtle oak and mixed spices at first. Supple, generous tannins demands immediate attention to a serious mid palate, followed by a complex, lingering aftertaste balanced between cassis and freshness. A true reflection of terroir and vintage!
Only 14 barrels (less than 5.000 bottles) were produced in 2013.
