Henri Richard Charmes Chambertin 2006 (750ml) x 1 Francois Parent Clos Vougeot 2011 (750ml) x 1 Dupont Tisserandot Corton Rognet 1999 (750ml) x 1
Henri Richard Charmes Chambertin 2006 This is a terrific, traditional red Burgundy from a fourth generation, family-run, organic estate. The 30 hectares of Charmes-Chambertin form the largest of Gevrey-Chambertin's nine Grand Crus, and this complex and age-worthy Pinot Noir is dense and dark and has a wonderfully unembellished sense of 'terroir' that first piqued our interest.
Francois Parent Clos Vougeot 2011 (Allen Meadows: 91-94pts) François Parent is married to Anne-Françoise Parent-Gros. Since they married, François has had access to her family’s holdings in Vosne-Romanée and Vougeot, and continues production of his own family vineyards in Pommard. The 2011 Clos Vougeot has a cool and quite restrained nose of a ripe, earthy and very fresh mélange of various wild red berries gives way to vibrant, detailed and impressively intense broad-shouldered flavors that possess moderate power and plenty of underlying tension. There is outstanding depth to the focused, youthfully austere and impeccably well-balanced finish that delivers excellent persistence. This is really very good and worth a look.
A very spicy nose that is earthier still and also notably sauvage in character combines with ripe aromas of black raspberry, plum and exotic tea before sliding gracefully into suave, velvety and seductive broad-shouldered flavors. There is plenty of mouth coating sap that serves to buffer the moderately firm tannins on the pepper and mineral-infused finish that offers excellent persistence.
