Region: Puglia, Italy
Grape varietal: Sangoivese
Antonio Ferrari was a wine merchant and negociant in Piedmont who in the mid-20th century developed an interest in the grapes of Puglia. He made a few mid-century vintages from Primitivo, which is an ancient grape related to Zinfandel.
It shows a touch of oxidation on notes of black cherries, chocolate and espresso infused with sweet spices. The wine has a long finish. This is a wine from the 1949 wine harvest. Fermentation was arrested before complete leaving a high residual sugar content which has preserved the wine. The wine then went into large old Slovenian casks for ten years and then stored in tanks.
